I was unable to reset my Vista password with Reset Windows Password. I get to the point where it says register the software to proceed to the next step. But how can I register the program when I am lockout of Windows. Please advise me on what should I do.
Well, first you'll have to create a full featured bootable CD/DVD or USB disk with the program. Important notice: you need to download the program using the link that was given to you in the registration message!
Here's the step-by-step instruction of what should you do:
1. Download the program using the download link that was sent to you in the registration e-mail.
2. The ZIP package contains RWP ISO image with the program and utility for creating bootable disks. Unpack the archive, run the utility and select an item for creating bootable CD/DVD/USB, browse for the ISO image and write the ISO image to disk.
3. Reboot the computer and change your PC BIOS settings to make the boot device (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or USB disk) first on the list. Save the settings, reboot once again and launch the program from your bootable disk.
The recovery process itself can be divided into 4 simple steps:
1. First welcome screen. Select SAM recovery mode to reset a regular user password (that is a Windows password of your local computer). In the 'What do you want to do' drop-down list, select 'Reset or change user account password' and proceed to the next step.
2. Here you have to choose your password location. The password resides in SAM registry file. If your windows was installed on disk C:\\ then your full path to the sam file should look like this: C:\\Windows\\System32\\Config\\SAM. Do the same for SYSTEM registry files. Proceed to the pre-final step.
3. If everything is going smoothly, you'll see the users list of your system. Select one you need (just click on it) and click next.
4. Final step. Type in your new password or set the password field blank to reset it. Pay a special attention to additional options. The user account should not be locked or disabled and the password should not be expired. Click <<RESET>> button to reset your password. The program should ask you if you want to create a roll-back file. Click Yes if you want to save your old password or No otherwise.
